How many shoes do we really need?

Have you ever wonder How many shoes do I need? or Do I need more than 1 pair of shoes?. Well, even if you are a beginner, you may need more than 1.

Beginner

If you're a beginner, I mostly suggest 2 pairs of shoes. 1 for classes and 1 to go out in latin dancing clubs. Most beginners want to dance as much as possible to become better and that's wonderful. But the latin dancing shoes may wear out quickly. With 2 pairs, they both last longer and you have the option, if you choose 2 totally different models, to use the 1 that you want in classes and vice versa.

Intermediary

For intermediary dancers, you may need 3 pairs of latin dancing shoes.If you’ve been dancing for a while, you probably know more what you’re confortable in: High, medium, low heel. Also you know that you need more than 1 pair. Myself when I was an intermedier, I usually had a medium heel shoes to practice so that i could master the dance moves. After that, I switched to the high heel to have a more feminin look. It could also be the opposite, high first to get use to the heel, if it's new to you and after the medium or low for most of your classes. In class if you are learning foot work, sneakers can be a good choice.

So in sum, 1 low, medium or high depending on your confortability for classes. 1 low to practice, 1 pair of sneakers dance shoes for foot work and 1 high heel to dance in general in classes or clubs.

Expert

When I use to dance latin, I was in that category. Let's just say I had a lot of dance shoes. More than 6! Why??? Well... when you become an expert you are most likely to start doing shows and/or competition, even teach. If I give myself as an example, I had 3 pairs for practice or teaching: high heel, low heel and sneakers. Since you’re always standing, jumping moving all around, you may find that wearing something else than high heels, helps and give a break to your precious dancing feet.

Secondly, I had as least 1 pair to go out in latin dancing clubs, Thirdly, I had a few pairs of differents styles and colors for shows and competition. When your doing shows or especially competitions, it's important to match your shoes with your costume. You can realize that I said 6 pairs to be shy ...but let’s face it! It’s worth it!

Why buy the same model twice?

I can honestly say that I even had exactly the same pair twice. Why???
If you find a pair that you are really really confortable in, buy 2! Even change the color if you’d like. That way, if the model doesn’t exist any more and yours are finished, you'll have that second pair as a backup. Also, you can use 1 of the latin dancing shoes for classes and the other for shows or anything else.
